Spanish - Conjugating ser and estar? Use pronoun, ser, or estar in sentence?

I'm taking my first year of spanish, and we're just learning about conjugating verbs. We're working on ser and estar. I know that ser is used when something is permanent and estar is used when something is temporary, but how do you know whether to use the ser/estar or the pronoun?? So confused!! Please help me. Make it easy for a 14 year old to understand.
