School Newspaper help?

Okay. Basically, our high school newspaper is very undermanned. This last year we only had four people join. And now three of those people left, and I only took half a year, so I do not have tons of experience. I am told that we will have many more kids this upcoming year, and my teacher has decided to make real editorial postions, editor-in-chief, advertisement editor, and layout editor. She has suggested that I be an advertisement editor, but i don't really know what my duties would be, and I feel like i should be in-chief because i have the most experience out of the new kids. Do you think I should just accept the AE postion? Does this look good for colleges?
